Dear Indigenous Youth

I hope you never forget you’re important

Repeat that line for reinforcement

“They” will say you don’t belong

Saying that you were born wrong

Your culture isn’t a true fine art

Though it came from your ancestors hearts

They may mock you for your skin’s color

Too light; too dark; words to smother

Suppress you from owning who you are

Defendants of Warriors; chiefs; holding their scars

You are the hope of those who came before

All their hopes, dreams in your genes stored

“They’ll” say you aren’t like them truly

But your ancestors own you fully

They earned this place for you

Now it’s time to rise and do

Build your mark into this place

Be magnificent and walk in creators grace

You belong to this time

Reach out and start to shine

You are not poor or neglected

You are merely yet to be resurrected

Look at your hands now reach toward destiny

You are the future. A beautiful sight to see

I hope you never forget you’re important

Repeat that line for reinforcement
